I am currently teaching a class of Chinese students taking their PhD at De La Salle University-Dasmarinas, Cavite, after teaching a course on leadership in ASCM. The interesting thing about teaching a course in De La Salle University-Dasmarinas, is the fact that 99% of the Chinese students in the class are not Christians. This gives me the opportunity to share the word of God to them.
I am also looking forward to teaching a module class in ASCM this coming July 2019. I will be teaching Principles and Methods of teaching. One of my favorite courses, I have been teaching this course for over twenty years at ASCM. I recently met some of my old students who confessed that they did not take the course seriously when they were in the seminary but have come to find it very useful in Ministry. This is the predicament of Seminary Education, we go into the seminary thinking of only learning Bible and Theology forgetting that we learn Bible and Theology to teach it to others and so we are supposed to be interested on learning how to teach Bible and Theology. Students need to be oriented on the importance of Christian Education, because ministry generally is education. That is why Jesus was called teacher, not Theologian or Bible Scholar. He was a teacher. Rabbi, Rabbani, if we want to be like Jesus, then we should be interested in teaching, because we learn Bible and Theology to teach it to others. That is the goal of Seminary Education. But, along the way, Christian Education has been undermined, so we have great Theologians and Bible Scholars who do not know how to teach the word but know it deeply. How ridiculous?
I will be leaving for Africa and Europe in August 2019 to teach and develop partnerships with Bible Schools and Churches. I am hoping and praying that I will have the support to carry out this plan. If God is putting in your heart the desire to support what I am doing in Africa, do not hesitate to support this endeavor for the African churches that need better equipped pastors.
